Mod Fashion

                                                            Prefall2011 Mod fashion

This trend is a repeat of history. It applies to fashion because fashion always repeats itself. In fall 2011 this trend will be very big. It has started a little now. In the streets I see a lot of mod clothing, even the patterned motif on dresses or blouses. Diane Von Furstenberg does an excellent job carrying on this trend. Her 2011 fall collection consist of knee length skirts long sleeve blouses with printed scarves, dresses with geometric motifs and knee high boots with leg warmers/tights. Michael Kors and BGBG also have a little more modern approach to this concept. BCBG has color blocked dresses and skirts matched up with blouses. Michael Kors has more tailored pants, crops and jackets with knit long sleeved dresses and tops.
Visually this concept is very clean and it would merchandise really well. Fabrics used for this trend are mixed prints, chunky knits, sheer fabrics. Colors used for the concept are :
n      Blitzed Red
n      Woody orange
n      Money green
n      Psychedelic pink
n      Stoned blue
n      Clean teal
n      Yellow sponge
n      Primo black
The lifestyle and culture that the customer carries through is very earthy laid back, modern and fun. Target customer would be 20s-40s. It’s a wide range for age but every age group would add their own twist. For a day time look chunky knits with mixed prints would be ideal. Night time look would be dresses that are either long or short and high wasted. Work would be skirts or pants/crops with a clean cut sweater.

Girl Talk

Girl Talk!

The boutique I chose to visit for this weeks assignment is Girl Talk Clothing, located in The Orchard at the Arbor shopping center of El Toro road in Lake forest. I had never been inside before but i have driven past it a few times. Its a cute little store/boutique. I found a lot of thing I like. Window displays were effortless, and went along with the whole holiday theme. Luckily the owner Ivy was there and I had the chance to talk to her about her store. She was really nice and open to the idea of blogging about her store. The trends I saw in her store were lace and femininity and a lot of piecing things together by accessorizing. She had a lot of cute dresses and of course lots and lots of denim. The brand that sells the most is Miss Me. So far that is her number one seller. Ivy does a really good job in keeping up with the trends but she also keeps the demographics in mind by trying to cater to the location and the type of people that come in. I can see myself coming in again to shop untill i drop!!!!!

Website Review

ApparelNews.net
Apparelnews.net is a publication site that is filled with a lot of useful information for trend forecasters and just about anyone who is a fashionista. The website also has a subscription but it is a little bit pricey, but anyone can still access information on all the news and current trends. Apparelnews.net is based in California and it gives you the scoop on fashion week, people and trends, and information about the industry. As a future trend forecaster this website really helps me a lot because it gives me all the information I need. It talks about beauty, accessories, shoes, textiles, trade shows, etc. It also gives me a calendar of upcoming events incase I would like to go or even just to keep an eye for it. The website also has articles on where the industry stands economy wise and what certain corporations are doing about it. This is good to know because if the economy is bad you want to find money saving ways to still move the trends forward. It is good to know about local places and what is the trend of a certain area and California apparel news does an excellent job in keeping us updated because it is all bout what is happening in California and in local cities.
I definitely recommend this site to any future forecasters because it is really helpful and they also have a free email newsletter that keeps you updated on all the scoops and news there is to know about this fabulous industry.

Window Displays

BCBG MAXAZRIA
Out of all the window displays at fashion Island I chose BCBG MAXAZRIA because to me their window displays were the most trendy. Both windows showcased their trendiest items. For the first window, it was outerwear and boots. The jacket on the right is military inspired, the way it is styled gives it harmony. The whole display was cohesive. The jacket on the left was somewhat slouchy/poncho. I love both coats i can totally see myself wearing them.

This is the other side of the store and in this display they showcase very trendy dresses. The one that really caught my eye though was the one with the structured sleeves. I have been seeing a lot of shape in the shoulders and sleeves on dresses on celebrities and in the runway. This look isn't only carried in dresses they have blouses and jackets as well. I like this look, it is really Avant-Garde.

When asked what inspired him for the fal 2010 collection he responded:

"I was thinking of uniforms and cadet girls—but it all started when I looked at an aviator jacket in the archive. Then, as I started designing into it, I realized it could be as versatile as the trench—strong and sexy, masculine and feminine." Christopher Bailey

"Clothes and jewellery should be startling, individual. When you see a woman in my clothes, you want to know more about them. To me, that is what distinguishes good designers from bad designers. "Alexander McQueen

"I'd like to believe that the women who wear my clothes are not dressing for other people, that they're wearing what they like and what suits them. It's not a status thing." Marc Jacobs

Runway Shows

Chloe Resort 2011

This look is called minimalist. It consists of camel, nude, beige colors. I find this trend to be very soft and lady like. This is something I see myself wearing. It wasn't a big drastic change from fall because it still incorporates it in spring.

Pre fall 2010

For fall I've been seeing a lot of menswear and outwear. There is a lot of tailoring involved. with this trend, although it's menswear it is still lady lake and a bit more polished.

I would say that this is one of my favorite trends. Military mixed with lace. I'm fascinated by the colors. the styling that goes with the trend is impeccable, everything flows together and creates a bold, easy look. A few A-list celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker have been spotted wearing this trend out in the streets or appearances. I can tell that this trend will last a while.

Trend Setters

RACHEL ZOE
Rachel Zoe is a trendsetter in the sense that she really has her own style. She doesn't really go with the flow or wear what everyone is wearing. Rachel is also coming up with an affordable clothing brand. We don't know when exactly she will launch this project but i heard its coming soon. I'm looking forward to her accessories because that's what i notice the most in her show. Rachel is an amazing stylist who has been in the industry for years, as a stylist you have to also present yourself as a trendsetter and i believe that Rachel does portray that.

Lauren Conrad

http://picsdigger.com/image/053b0e01/

Lauren Conrad is an excellent example of a trendsetter. We have all been watching her since her own show The Hills. The fashionista showed us her own style and lifestyle in the show. Although the show is over and done with, she is still working hard on her label. This fahionista has her own clothing line and has a few book out. her clothing line portrays her style and what she actually would wear. i feel like this girl has always had good publicity so when you see her in magazines she is always in the best dressed, get her style, who wore it best section.

Wacky Bands!!!!

Wacky/Silly Bands!!!!!!!!!!!

Wacky bands are silicone rubber band bracelets that come in various shapes.(http://www.wackyshapes.com/). I have been seeing these wacky bands everywhere. All different kinds of age groups play around with these wacky bands. You can use them as bracelets and they will go back to its original shape and design when you take them off. A popular thing to do is trade wacky bands with someone else that has them on. People have started collecting them by trading. All my co-workers call them "bumpits", we bump wrists then trade. Its silly but at the same time kinda fun. So go get yourselves some wacky bands and continue this trend!!! (soon too be fad)

Then and Now

Menswear for Women

http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mascl_kath.jpg Katharine Hepburn wore slacks more than she did dresses. Katherine is a perfect example of the empowered woman who always thought of herself equal to men. She deifinitely made menswear for women be stylish.

"I never realized until lately that women were supposed to be the inferior sex."-Katharine Hepburn

Menswear for women has come a long way since the late 70's. Designers have been coming out with a few key pieces and so far they have been doing great. The boyfriend jeans has been a big hit, women style them with either stilletos or some simple casual flats. Another look that I have been seeing is the boy fit trousers. They are supposed to be big in the fall, I completely agree because I have been seeing a lot of it in the runways and in Hollywood. When going shopping a lot of stores will have the boyfriend jeans, boy fit trousers, boyfriend sweater/cardigan. For shoes oxfords or loafers are huge, now they have made them with a little twist, they made oxford cut-out pumps. Personally I like this look, its fashion forward with a modern twist. I believe that it will be a trend for a while.
